Administration

Director Emergency Department

POSITION SUMMARY: 
Manages and coordinates the clinical and other unit activities and assures that quality patient care is delivered consistent with established policies, goals and objectives of the department and the hospital.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years experience as practicing RN. BSN degree preferred. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must have knowledge of all equipment and materials required for procedures described in the Emergency Services Policy/Procedure Manual and Nursing Service Procedure Manual. Management experience preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Maintain current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse. BCLS, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC and/or PALS, must be maintained current.

Director Laboratory

POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Laboratory Services Director is responsible for the operation of the Laboratory and the Outreach Laboratory Services. The Laboratory Director is responsible for maintaining a quality of performance for our tests, patients and physicians. This quality includes staffing, scheduling, budgeting, teaching, purchasing, and solving problems. The Director must be accountable for Quality Assurance, Improving Organizational Performance, Safety, and any other operations delegated to that position. Professional growth and development of employees must be enhanced, and the Manager must see to it that the environment is conductive to such growth.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Four or more years experience in the lab section/shift and minimum of two years experience successfully managing a laboratory section strongly preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
MT (ASCP) with BS Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent.

Director Surgical Services

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, direct and redirect, patient-family centered care through the continuum of perioperative care to include outpatient surgery unit; operating rooms; post-anesthesia care unit; sterile processing department; and anesthesia services. Reports directly to Chief Nursing Officer.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of three years varied and progressive perioperative services experience or perioperative nursing management experience with increasing levels of administrative responsibilities.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Maintain current licensure as Registered Nurse.
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
CNOR preferred.

Clerical

Admitting Clerk

POSITION SUMMARY:
Arranges for the efficient and orderly registration of patients, insures that accurate patient information is collected, Insurance is verified, and that patients are aware of pertinent hospital policies and procedures and financial responsibility.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent; some typing skills and CRT experience preferred; experience meeting the public desirable.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
No certification is required.

Health Information Management Coder

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes to records of discharged inpatients. Works with CDI/Case Management to ensure clear documentation in the patient record.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Completion of course in medical record technology. Sufficient previous directly related training and experience.                                        

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
R.H.I.T. preferred.
CCS or LPN preferred.

Physician Services Biller

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reviews account work lists and follow-up documents, and obtains other information current accounts, including any special circumstances for physician services.  Contacts patients and/or third party payer organizations to secure payments or arrange alternative settlement plans; identifies problem delinquencies and recommends their disposition; prepares and maintains collection-related records.  Reviews and processes credit balances accounts for refunds.  Reviews and responds to patient accounts correspondence on a timely basis.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in use of CRT, calculator, and typewriter (at least 25 words per minute).  One or more years experience in insurance billing and/or collections in hospital or related field are desired.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Coding certification is preferred.

Clinical

Charge Nurse, Emergency Department

POSITION SUMMARY:
Supervises all unit activities in Emergency Services during assigned shift; acts for the Nurse Director in his/her absence. Assures that quality patient care is delivered consistent with established policies, goals and objectives of the department and the hospital.

 EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
BSN degree preferred. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must have knowledge of all equipment and materials required for procedures described in the Emergency Services Policy/Procedure Manual and Nursing Service Procedure Manual.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Maintain current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse. BCLS, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC and/or PALS, must be maintained current.

Clinical Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
Supports the Director of Surgical Services in the complete function of the department. Assist with coordinating the day-to-day operations of the department in an effective and efficient manner. The clinical activities may include circulating and/or scrubbing, ensuring proper care and storage of sterile supplies and rental equipment, participating in patient and family teaching, coordination of unit supplies as needed, and assisting team members in any other capacity as needed.

 EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have a minimum of three (3) years prior experience as a practicing Registered Nurse. Supervisory experience preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Maintain current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse.

Laboratory Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of Laboratory Supervisor, performs all phlebotomy procedure to include blood cultures and bleeding time tests.  May perform various other procedures such as typing, filing, answering the telephone, cleaning counters/equipment/etc., and may be utilized as a backup histology technician is required. 

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Prefer a student of a Medical Laboratory Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant program.  Will consider a student/graduate of a two year degree in any related science.  Prior experience in phlebotomy procedures is desirable but not necessary.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None required.

Laboratory Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of Laboratory Supervisor, performs a wide variety of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests and procedures with related duties to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease while following established standards and practices. 

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Requires an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a graduate with an associate’s degree in any related science.  Prior experience in laboratory procedures is a hospital environment is desirable but not necessary.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a nationally accredited organization, preferred.

Laboratory Technologist

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of Laboratory Supervisor, performs a wide variety of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests and procedures with related duties to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease while following established standards and practices.  Serves as advanced level laboratory workers. Responsible for basic supervision of day to day operation of section assigned.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a graduate with an associate’s degree in any related science.  Prior experience in laboratory procedures is a hospital environment is desirable but not necessary.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification as a Medical Technologist or a Medical Laboratory Scientist from a nationally accredited organization, preferred.

Licensed Practical Nurse (Med-Surg)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Administers nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a RN.  Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.                                         

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Maintains current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as LPN.

Patient Care Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care, and assist in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the RN (or faculty staff representative) in charge of the team and/or unit. 

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; satisfactory completion of in-house nursing assistant certification course is generally performed (mandatory in some situations.)

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.

Registered Nurse (Emergency Department)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing care in the clinical setting with a special emphasis on care of critically ill patients.  Occasionally may be assigned ER Charge Nurse Responsibilities.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.                                       

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse.  ACLS, and PALS, as well as certification in BLS and CPR.

Registered Nurse (Intensive Care Unit)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing care in the clinical setting. There is a special emphasis on the care of critically ill patients.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.                                         

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse. ACLS certification preferred.

Registered Nurse (Med-Surg)

Registered Nurse (Surgical Services)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Provides circulating and/or scrub nurse services in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists surgical team as needed in any other capacity, following established standards and practices.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing A.D.N. or B.S.N. 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse. Current CPR, PALS and ACLS or willing to obtain during the initial orientation period of employment.

Registered Nurse (Women's Services)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing care in the clinical setting with a special emphasis on the care of obstetrical/neonatal patients. 

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an approved RN nursing program.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current licensure with the AL State Board of Nursing as Registered Nurse. Successful completion of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) course. Successful completion of AWHONN fetal heart monitoring program.

Emergency Medical Services

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
In conjunction with the Emergency Medical Service Act of the State of Alabama and directly related to the philosophy, objective and goals of Jackson County Health Care Authority, is responsible for being prepared, responding, evaluating, caring, treating, transporting and documenting the care of patients.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Advanced EMT license of an accredited school of Emergency Medical Service.  Demonstrates a working knowledge of pertinent Department of Transportation standards.  Must meet current insurance requirements of age and driving records.                       

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Advanced EMT Advanced license by Alabama State Board of Health.  Must have valid drivers license.
EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) required.

Emergency Medical Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
In conjunction with the Emergency Medical Service Act of the State and directly related to the philosophy, objective and goals of EASI, is responsible for being prepared, responding, evaluating, caring, treating, transporting and documenting the care of patients. 

 EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited school of Emergency Medical Service.  Demonstrates a working knowledge of pertinent Department of Transportation standards.  Must meet current insurance requirements of age and driving records.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current EMT I license by Alabama State Board of Health.  Must have valid drivers license. EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) required.

Medical Transport Driver

POSITION SUMMARY:
Applicants will be responsible for the non-urgent transport of patients in accordance with the Emergency Services Act of the State of Alabama; as well as, the philosophy, objectives, and goals of HH Highlands EMS System. Applicants shall respond to, evaluate, provide basic care, transport, and maintain all pertinent documentation for such non-urgent transports. Patient safety and security shall be priority.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited High school or equivalent. Demonstrates a working knowledge of pertinent Department of Transportation standards.  Must meet current insurance requirements of age and driving records.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have valid driver’s license. Must have CPR certification or be able to obtain CPR certification.

Paramedic

POSITION SUMMARY:
In conjunction with the Emergency Medical Service Act of the State and directly related to the philosophy, objective and goals of EASI, is responsible for being prepared, responding, evaluating, caring, treating, transporting and documenting the care of patients. 

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Paramedic graduate of an accredited school of Emergency Medical Service. Demonstrates a working knowledge of pertinent Department of Transportation standards. Must meet current insurance requirements of age and driving records.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Paramedic license by Alabama State Board of Health.  Prefer certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).  Must have valid drivers license. 

Specialty Services

Dietitian

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing clinical nutrition services, including nutrition assessment, modified diet formulation, self-management training and nutrition intervention to patients/residents. Ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory agency compliance, and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s or higher degree granted by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or an equivalent foreign degree) with completion of the academic requirements of a program in nutrition or dietetics accredited by an appropriate national accreditation organization recognized for this purpose. He/she must have completed at least 900 hours of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of a registered dietitian or nutrition professional.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must be licensed by the State of Alabama in accordance with the provisions as contained in current state statutes as governed by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietitic/Nutrition Practice.

Occupational Therapist

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide purposeful activity with individuals who are limited by physical injury, illness, psychosocial dysfunction, development or learning disabilities, or the aging process in order to maximize independence, prevent disability and maintain health.   

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited educational program. Have completed a minimum of 6 months of full time field work. No prior experience is required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Alabama Licensure is required. Must complete 15 CEU’s per year for license renewal which is renewed every two years.

Physical Therapist

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the delivery of physical therapy services for those patients referred to the Rehabilitation Department and for the proper documentation and maintenance of all clinical records for patients in your care.

EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must hold a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Physical Therapy from approved curricula. Prior clinical experience desired.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Physical Therapy License as required by the State of Alabama Board of Physical Therapy.

Support Services

Courier

POSITION SUMMARY:
Transporting incoming and outgoing mail to the post office, making daily deposit at bank, obtaining board signatures on checks as needed, delivering correspondence to/from doctor’s offices and other healthcare agencies daily, transporting all other correspondence to/from appropriate person/place as directed, and logging/transporting outreach specimens.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent, typing skills (at least 25 words per minute). Familiarity with CRT’s and date entry preferred.                                 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.

Enviromental Services Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reports to the Director and Supervisor of Environmental Services with functional accountability to nursing supervision for patient rooms.   Cleans and maintains an assigned area of the hospital/nursing home in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Previous direct related experience preferred.  Must demonstrate correct use of chemicals, supplies and tools prior to completion of orientation period.                                  

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.

Materials Management Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates the activities of the Materials Management department in centralized receiving, storing, purchasing, delivering and issuing materials, equipment and supplies to various hospital departments.  Performs purchasing assignments of a complex nature, purchases items at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, and specification requirements. Replenishes carts on all floors.

EDUCATION/ SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience in personal computer operations and applications, good verbal and written communication skills. Shipping and receiving experience preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
None Required.
