Volunteering at Highlands Medical Center
At Highlands, volunteers expand the capabilities of physicians, nurses and staff. The information desk and gift shop are completely managed by volunteers, each of whom has committed to four-hour shifts either in the morning or afternoon.
Throughout the year, Highlands volunteers also host numerous fundraising events to benefit the medical center. Annually, the group conducts several jewelry, used book and baked goods sales – the proceeds of which are donated to Highlands. Two years ago, funds from the drives made it possible to purchase two new ambulances, and volunteers hope to raise enough money this year to purchase a van for the nursing care facilities.
“In addition to fundraisers, we also help with the Foundation uniform sale and blood drives,” says Ena Martin, volunteer coordinator and human resources generalist at Highlands. “We’re available anywhere we’re needed, and we’re always ready to help.”
