News Release Jackson County Legislative Delegation presents $14,000 to Highlands Foundation June 22, 2010 SCOTTSBORO — The Jackson County Legislative Delegation recently presented Highlands Foundation a check for $14,000. Representing the Delegation was Sen. Lowell Barron, Rep. John Robinson and Rep. Butch Taylor. Highlands Foundation will use the donation to upgrade their Imaging Center doors to automatic.
Highlands Foundation is a non-profit fund-raising arm of Highlands Medical Center and its affiliates. Highlands Foundation raises funds to enhance technology, purchase equipment, upgrade facilities and provide more healthcare programs and services for the communities Highlands Medical Center serves.
“The doors to this part of the hospital are currently not automatic,” Sen. Barron Said. “When Highlands Foundation came to us with the fundraising request, we were glad to help them. Many of the folks coming in for an MRI or X-ray or other type of imaging are unable to walk without crutches or a wheelchair or motorized scooter. Replacing these manual doors with automatic ones will make entering and exiting this part of the hospital much easier and safer for patients. We were glad to be able to provide funding for this important project.”
Brenda Lusk, director of Highlands Imaging Center, said she was very thankful to the Jackson County Legislative Delegation for providing funds for the new doors. “Having automatic doors will be much more convenient for patients and our staff. We are very pleased with the donation,” said Lusk.
“The sole purpose of Highlands Foundation is to complete projects that improve this hospital,” said Jerry Wheeler, chairman of Highlands Foundation. “We appreciate the Jackson County Legislative Delegation for their commitment to helping Highlands Foundation raise funds for hospital improvement projects.”
Highlands Foundation hosts fundraising events throughout the year to assist in their fundraising efforts. They also rely heavily on donations from the community. To learn more about Highlands Foundation, please call 256.218.3789.
