Breastfeeding Class

Fee: Free for mothers delivering at Highlands Maternity Center; otherwise, $20.

This class provides all the information you will need to successfully begin breastfeeding your newborn. Basic information includes positioning the baby, engorgement and prevention of sore nipples, short-term and long-term health benefits for the baby and the bonding that occurs between babies and their breastfeeding mothers. Fathers and grandparents-to-be are encouraged to attend to help them understand that breastfeeding is a family affair.

Childbirth Class

Date: Every Monday
Time: 7 p.m. Course is six weeks long and lasts two hours each week.
Fee: Free for mothers delivering at Highlands Maternity Center; otherwise, $75.
Registration: Please call at approximately 20 weeks to register: 218.3340.

        

This class is designed to familiarize the mother with breathing and relaxation techniques, the
process of labor and delivery, what to expect while you are at Highlands Maternity Center, anesthesia for labor, postpartum, breastfeeding and infant care. After attending, you will be knowledgeable of procedures and options available to you, enabling you to make choices that provide the fulfilling labor and delivery experience that you want for yourself. A tour of The Maternity Center is included with this class. The class meets weekly for six weeks and should be scheduled as close as possible to your due date. A reunion class is held after all babies are delivered.

First Aid/CPR course

CPR is the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6 PM.  No pre-registration required. The cost is $15.00.

  

First Aid classes are scheduled as needed. The cost of this course is $15.00.

Freedom From Smoking

Orientation is FREE with NO obligation to register for the class. If you are interested in attending the class, after orientation, there is a $90 fee and a payment plan available. Should you live with someone who also smokes the second person fee for someone living in your home is only $45.

The Freedom from Smoking clinic is a comprehensive program that deals with long-term issues.
The entire program consists of 8 once-a-week sessions. The program’s step-by-step group approach includes positive thinking, alternative behaviors, one-on-one help, rewards and group support. There is a guarantee that if you resume smoking within one year, you may go through the program again (one time) without an additional fee.

Until Dawn Grief Support Group

Are you dreading the holidays because you have lost someone special? If your answer is yes, you are invited to join a faith-based grief support group. The leaders will seek to use the spiritual backgrounds of participants to help them find hope and healing.

This is an adult grief support group based on spiritual beliefs. It is an eight-week program that will alternate sessions with another adult grief support group that meets in Scottsboro.
